Does anyone know if a blood test showing protein is connected to having had an oesphgectomy . I have digestive issues especially if I eat anything fatty or spicy. I.m just wondering if there could be a connection.

Protein is n blood
Could you be dehydrated? I find it harder to drink enough now I am having to concentrate so hard on eating enough calories.
Thanks for your reply yes I could be dehydrated. It's a toss up sometimes whether to eat or drink and I tend to eat rather than drink.
Me too. Lets go and have a drink of water now!
Cheers 😊
Hi Molly I would be interested in your results. 10 years on and I find fried foods a guilty treat as I know I will probably suffer later if I eat them. Spicy foods have been off the menu even before cancer.
Cheers. Lizzy
Hi Liz I went for routine blood tests which all came back normal. I have however some back fractures so the consultant asked for a myloma blood test which has shown protein in the blood . I,ve had an mri scan of the spine and an appointment with the doctor next week. I had radiotherapy which could be connected to the back fractures I take a high dose of lansaprozole which can also cause problems. I,m feeling very low at the moment it’s like reliving the past when I had my oesphagectomy waiting for test results etc. I now have a fear of doctors and hospitals so my stress levels are sky high. Sorry for the rant. Regarding spicy foods etc I also have always had a problem with them.
Thanks Molly I will have a chat with my GP I have taken Lanzoperole for years. I am sorry you are feeling stressed out waiting for results. It's like square one again. Please don't you are an old hand at this and know how long it can take for tests to be done. You have also had a very major op which does cause lots of changes and can be the cause of lots of things rather than a major problem. I had a chest X-ray which showed a major change and spent a few weeks and a lot of tests before a surgeon realised it was my op and the consequences of that causing what looked like shadows. I do hope they sort you out huge big hug and I have my fingers crossed. Please feel free to rant. Don't apologise 💕💕
Thanks Liz I have appointment with orthopedic doctor this week and heamatologist next week so trying my best not to keep worrying about them. 😱
Hi Molly, depends on the blood tests you have had, what they show and the timing in relation to the timing of surgery. All the best. David
Hi I,ve been reading up on the surgery we,ve had and as far as I can understand because we have a reduced stomach it’s more difficult to absorb vitamins and minerals. I tried to ring the specialist nurse but couldn’t get an answer. I,ll try again on Monday. My diet is very limited now there’s a lot of foods I can’t eat I find fruit (except bananas) to acidic and most vegetables give me an upset stomach .
Here's a very old article showing long-term consequences of gastrectomy which underscores the case for taking a daily multi-vitamin and mineral tablet. Add to that the long-term effects of PPIs (I take lansoprazole) on magnesium, it adds to the argument. Of course a healthy varied diet as well.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
