Hello , I had my ivor lewis on 19th march 2018 due to oesophagus cancer. Age 53. Everything going fine except from last week i had blood in my saliva during night time, 3 times in 5 nights..My GP advised to keep observing this for next few days if no improvement then do a endoscopy .I am bit scared .Please let me know if any of you had a similar issue..

Blood in Saliva
Hi Copyap,
I had something like this a couple of weeks ago. (Surgery mid-February 2018.) Acid and saliva with brownish colour coming up. Feeling as if a stone was in my throat. Endoscopy showed an inflammation of the oesophagus with tiny lesions. After two weeks taking PPI's 40 mg daily it's better now.
I was very worried, too! All the best, Monika
Hi there. I haven't experienced this myself but I would urge you to talk to your specialist nursing team. They'll know more than your GP and it will enable you to get investigations about this, or any other problems, actioned a lot faster. Best wishes.
Hi Coyop,
I remember having blood when I woke up in my saliva for a period of time which we discovered came from a nose bleed where blood ran down my throat while I slept. Apparently when I was awake I just swallowed it. Hope the endescopy goes well
Cheers Lizy
My husband had this occasionally after his ivor lewis. It was determined his blood thinners were causing it. He currently takes a lower dose, and the problem has not recurred. Have it checked out.
