LOST TASTE OF FOOD

My husband is having radiotherapy & is nearing the end of his treatment, he has for the past couple of weeks - been unable to taste anything but thank goodness he is at still eating & not having to use his 'tummy button' - I guess so many other people go through this but it would be nice to have the assurance that your taste does eventually come back. He has cancer on his vocal chords, so had surgery & they are trying to keep him 'as normal' so he can still speak. Anyone else who has had this, their views would be appreciated. Thank you all & Happy Christmas

Good evening,

I did not have radiotherapy personally so not qualified to assure.

However, just like taking very strong anti-biotics (say for example malaria) the taste buds just disappear temporarily. similar effect with the therapies some of the sensory functions go mute temporarily, and slowly the bodytakes over normal functions once the residual elements/effects of the therapy/treatment reside slowly.

When my sister went through radiation for breast cancer she lost her sense of smell, which in turn is most of your taste. She lost it for about 6 months, and it came back.

Hi, my husband’s appetite recovered slowly over many months. However there are food that he loved to eat but now he just doesn’t like the taste anymore eg: scrambled eggs and quiche.
