Hi I have been suffering from awful acid reflux and now I’m finding it hard to swallow normal food.... I have recently started some new medication one of the side effects is a dry mouth so I’m sure this isn’t helping. Any advice would be great... many thanks

Food Tips when finding swallowing difficult
Hi, I had the same problem due to a large hiatus hernia. I found soups very useful but the best thing I found was Wiltshire Farm Foods. They do very soft meals, pureed in fact. They don't look marvellous but they kept me going. You can obviously puree your own food. I kept my weight up by nibbling Bel cheeses, they turn to cream when you chew them. The GP can prescribe protein drinks, but I prefer "proper food". Hope this helps.
Hi tic22
I had a similar problem, not with dry mouth, but acid reflux, sometimes quite severe. Having visited the GP prescribed Lansoprazole 30mg per day, which really did not help. A change in medication was suggested to, Omeprazole 2 x 20mg per day. Although this medication did help reduce the acid reflux, the condition was still a problem.
After some research on the Internet, I discovered that their is another medication you can be prescribed known as Esomeprazole.
I discuseed this with the GP and asked if this was available and was informed that yes it is, but not usually prescribed as it is the more expensive option....😡
I requested that i should try this, GP approved.
My condition is much better, still a little acid, but I deal with it.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards.
Hi with your acid reflux did you have the horrible thick yellow/ orange muck come up and give the burning feeling in you upper chest ? It’s not until you can get rid of all the muck you get some relief!!. I have tried many things and I do use my V pillow and also not sleep on my left side , it sounds like the medicine you are trying could help me !!!
Hi, occasionally i would experience a yellowish flem.
The burning feeling in the upper chest, i believe is a result of acid build up. The Esomperazole works for me.
Speak to your GP.
Kind regards
Keith

Hi
I have been prescribed Esometrazol have been taking them for a week just wondered how long it took you to notice any improvement. At the moment I haven't notice much change in how I feel.
Regards.
Hi tlc22, purée your meal and add stock to make it into thin soup consistency or drink Sustagen twice a day (with fibre hospital formula).
