swallowing problems

I had surgery done about 4 weeks ago, to raise my stomach up, and by pass my esafugus, now i cant swallow hardley anything at all,fluid or liquids or anything really without choking, and aspiration also very painful also very bad heartburn i have never had this done before so new to all this dont know if any of this is normal, but loosing wait fast thanks Troy,

Hi there,You don’t say why you had the surgery, but go back to your team at hospital.

Things take awhile to heal but you may need a stretch.

Hi, I was supposed to have my esafugus removed, but it has grown to my spine, and heart, so they just left it and capped it off, and pulled my stomach up around it to so to my throat,but thanks for the input

Any surgerical procedure like you had had is very complex. four weeks from the surgery is very very early days and the New Anatomy in your body will require its own sweet time to first heal the intervention, accommodate and adjust the new changes.

Weight wil obviously reflect the ups and downs from surgery and recovery from it. New normal weight will be established soon, not in days but months or more. So patience is required with a due diligence on the pattern if losing too much too fast, imemdiate attention from A&E etc.

Anxiety, this bit will influence the recovery adversely if not handled very well; without medications to deal with it.

Hi 4 weeks is very early to be swallowing much. Do talk to your medical team and get it checked out. Also remember your digestive system is in total shock. It now works on gravity and the valve at the bottom of your stomach does not really open or close as it used to. It’s also probably a lot smaller and in the middle of your chest. Your gut is like a baby’s it has to relearn things (they normally cut the Vegas nerve which is like the brain stem/ conductor of the complete digestive system ) and it’s still finding it’s feet and recovering. Treat it gently.

It does take time and you need to eat small egg cup size portions to begin with. But lots of times a day. Don’t drink and eat at the same time.
