I've been on omeprazole for around 2.5years to treat severe reflux. For 5 months now i've suffered from on off bouts of intense 'lightheadedness' and fatigue. All other tests have come back clear and there seems to be no reason for these symptoms. The last 5 days have been particularly bad and i basically feel dizzy all the time, with extreme weakness and fatigue too. I'm starting to wonder if I could have developed some side effect of omeprazole? Has anyone experienced this?
I'm worried about stopping omeprazole because every time i try to within 12 hours I have acid flowing up into my mouth... the rebound just doesn't seem tolerable. I'm desperate and don't know what to do
Any help/advice much appreciated

Have you asked your GP to try a different PPI, Lansoprazole or Rabeprazole? I wonder if they stop working so well after a few years as that's what's happened to me and Lansoprazole. I can't tolerate Omeprazole at all.
You need to buy some ‘magnesium ‘ supplement (high strength ) and take it every day . Your omeprazole medication depletes magnesium in your body (this causes dizziness and fatigue ) . I experienced your symptoms and went to the GP (he couldn’t explain reason ) . I just did a lot of research and discovered my ezomprazole (similar medication to yours ) causes magnesium depletion and started taking it as a supplement which fixed dizziness etc . Hope this helps . Will
Hello, I've been taking omeprazole for 1 year for Achalasia. 20mg is the dose ,and I've had no side effects you described. My only advice would be to ask your Dr.s a lot of questions as to why this is happening. Good Luck.
