I'm new to this site. I've been having problems with what I think is acid reflux and they are getting worse - particularly feeling of a blockage in my throat, difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulties when walking, burping. Any advice please? I've seen a doctor who has given me omeprazole (which doesn't appear to have any effect) and am being referred to an ENT specialist (but will probably have to wait ages for an NHS apptment). Should I be asking for a referral to a gastroenterologist?

Advice re acid reflux?
Hi ask them to put you on lansaprazole this made a big difference to me. I would definitely ask to see gastro as well. Also you need to exclude acidic food from your diet eg tomatoes chocolate lemon garlic alcohol etc for short term anyway . Sleep with 2 or more pillows and take gaviscon advance before bed this all helps if you have silent reflux and it sounds like you have from the symptons you describe - hope this helps
Hi
Yes, you need to see a Gastroenterologist not an ENT specialist. Ask your GP to change the referral. The former will arrange a endoscopy to determine the reason for your symptoms.
Other than that I agree with Shazzashark’s comments, which will help in the short term.
Best of luck.

Absolutely you need gastroenterologist and very urgent esophagogastic ultrasound assisted scope. The fact that you feel a blockage could well be a tumour which was my diagnosis exactly having same symptoms as you. On result of scope which was done the day after i had first appt with gastroenterologist the next day called back for diagnosis and urgent referral to cancer team which was the following morning at 9am further CT scan then Pet scan. Biopsy heart echo and MRI scan two meetings with Multi disciplinary team and chemo started in less than 3 weeks. I was rescanned halfway through my 6 cycle chemo programme and now on cycle 5 . You need urgent action. I am in Qatar but am British and will continue treatment here as cant risk UK NHS with long wait times etc. Do push hard ...make sure they know you know the facts of your symptoms and what should be taking place urgently. You must not delay this. Push push push.
Morning the camera down and having a good look to see what’s happening there it could be many reasons why this is happening the burping is from the omperzole I know I get it you may need a motility Study to see what’s happening but hopefully they will get to the bottom of it for you good luck

Many thanks for all your prompt replies. They really help. Will get into my doctor as soon as possible to ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist.
YES YES YES
You need to have an endoscopy in the first instance which your Doc can arrange then if needed a Gastroenterologist will be brought into the picture
Best wishes
