chest and back ache after endoscopy

hi everyone two days ago i had an endoscopy and afterwards i have this pain at the bottom of my sternum, basically where the esophagus and stomach meet, every time food or water passes that point. it’s now day 2 and i feel a whole ache down my esophagus and across my back. i’m so so so scared something permanently has been damaged as i’m worse than i was before i went in. i rang my doctor and he said that four biopsies were taken so it’s probably that but the pain is much worse and the ache feels much larger than a few small biopsies. has anyone had similar ache pain after an endoscopy??? will it last??????!!!!

Hi hopefully the pain will settle down but if not go back to hospital. Did they give you any results or medication like Omeprazole. Try gaviscon advance to coat the oesphagus before food.

Best wishes

Debbie

hi debbie it’s day two it’s still sore but not as specific in that one spot, more an ache all down the esophagus and my back. i’m assuming it’s just bruised or just sore because nothings ever been down through there in my life!!! i take omeprazole twice a day and will take gaviscon too and am eating soft foods. hoping the pain doesn’t last!!!

I would ask the doctor for some oromorph until the pain goes away.

ah thankfully after like 2 weeks all the pain dissappeared. i think my body is just sensitive. doctors told me that it definitely wasnt caused by the endoscopy and that pain afterwards is like the most bizarre thing thats ever happened to mankind. lol. i have other problems now - side effects from the omaprezole (ppi). constant nausea. weaning off now, down to 1x a day from 2x a day, and will be stopping completely in a few weeks.
