Hi everyone: I have been on maximum dose of Pantoprazole for more than a year - 80mg per day plus Ranitidine and Gaviscon occasionally. What, if any, side effects are they beginning to suffer from?

Any advice on how to wean myself off this high dose? I also have AFib and reflux bouts nit helping. Best wishes

Would see your GP as weaning yourself off doses can be complex . Do you just buy some items over the counter as I would take a record of any non prescription drugs to your appointment.I refused to take Lanzoprazole for my hiatus hernia long term. I opted for surgery as this drug apart from loads of long term side effects inhibits Vit B12 . I felt sluggish on it . 15 months on from surgery and 19kg lighter I feel great . My weight was an issue so after surgery I addressed it .

Thanks for reply. You seemed to have done the right thing! Wish I knew then what I know now! But that's often the case.

It was called nissan fundoplication op for hiatus hernia . I was sent home same day after 4 hour surgery as bed shortage but I think most stay in overnight .Afterwards you have to have a liquid diet which is quite restricted for about 2 weeks then mushy food for another 2 , then start introducing harder pieces . Seems harsh but half the time you are resting / recovering anyway . You have to push yourself to start to go out and walk as I felt shaky going out at first but you build up . I was offered an 18 month reduced membership rate at my local council gym . The rehab scheme is called PARIS . You have access to a special trainer who works out an exercise programme for you .If you google Paris scheme and apply . An NHS assessor phones you for a telephone chat - no difficult questions just the will to attend . I am now 12 moths through the programme and I feel insanely fit and healthy . Before the op the tests are an endurance but I won't look back . I am so much better .

Not what you're looking for?
