Once again I take to the computer to seek some information on my wretched Gerd!

Why is it I am on the maximum Pantoprazole (80mg) plus 300 Ranitidine (at night), take gaviscon too before going to bed and still get pain and discomfort and reflex?

I jhave been on the maximum dose now for over a year and have tried to see the NHS gastro consultant but they will noit bring my next appointment forward. Compokained to GP to no avail. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi, my husband suffered badly for months, he was on lansaprole morning & night & gaviscon when needed, and sleeping upright, but it wasn’t helping, still coughing all night unable to sleep, it resulted in a hospital stay as the coughing lead to a lung infection, however what the hospital did was try different combinations of drugs to see what worked best for him, settled on esmaprole in the morning, ratidene in the evening, don’t move from your seat for 20 mins after eating and don’t eat an hour before bed time, wedge pillow under the mattress, elephant feed placed under the bed feet at head end, all of this has done the trick, so in summary I think you have to try different different combinations of drugs to find one that works for you & fiddle with the bed to get it right for you.

Thanks for that Tilly. Will follow through. Can you tell me what dosage of Lansoprazole your husband was on and what dosage of Esmaprole and Ranitidine he's on now. Big thank you again.

Lansprole he was on 30mg twice a day, now esomeprazole 40mg once a day, ranitidine 150mg that’s twice a day not once a day like I said earlier, also my husband reminded me he has metoclopramide 10mg 3 times a day, this speeds up digestion so acid doesn’t have a lot of food to work on at any one time, speaking to other people there all on different meds, it just seems you gave to find out what works for you.

Hi Tilly: My GP says she is unable to prescribe Esmaprole as its too expensive according to the NICE guidelines. Thats even though the gastro consultant recommended it! (He says he's not allowed to prescribe these medications - its up to the GP!) Best wishes

We didn’t have a problem with our GP getting this medication? however our GP didnt want to prescribe metoclopramide, we went back to the GI nurses & told them the GP didn’t want to prescribe it & they sent a fax to the GP saying the medication was needed & the GP then perscribed it, you could say to the GP that it’s not fair that other GP,s are prescribing it & he isn’t, ask to see the NICE guidelines he’s referring to! Ask the GI nurses to fax the GP & if all fails change your GP? You could maybe put your location on here and people on this site might be able to suggest a better GP?
