My husband went through chemo and radiation for stage 3a lung cancer. After the treatments, he had his surgery 7 weeks later and they said they got it all. It’s now been 5 weeks since his surgery and everyday seems to get tougher and tougher for him. His legs are so swollen they look like they are going to pop, he can’t lay down, the pain is so intense. He walks 10 feet and he has to stop to catch his breathe. He is in constant pain and it’s breaking my heart. Can’t get any answers from doctors if this is even normal. Can someone enlighten me as to what to expect and if this is normal? How long is the recovery to just be able to walk a block?

Hi no experience of this. I would go back to your surgeon to get answers. Most people on here are Oesphagal cancer patients.
Sorry I hope he gets answers.
Best Wishes
Debbie
It does take most people a long time to recover from surgery affecting the lungs.
I think it depends on where the pain is that would be important. Certainly it sounds like your husband needs better pain relief.
Swelling of the ankles also needs to be looked at by a doctor.
If you cannot get an answer from the surgical unit at the hospital, you will need to see a GP.

Thank you. We are not getting any cooperation at all. I will take your advice and schedule an appointment.
