Stomach pain

Hello. My name is Felisha and I have had gastric bypass on November 30th. I am now lactose intolerant so I don't mess with dairy. Can someone please tell me why I get stomach cramps all the time? It hurts like contractions and it gets hard to breath. I am not sure how many grams of sugar I am allowed to have, but with any type of food brings the pain and vomiting. I can't take it. Whay can I do to get rid of the pain? I can't tolerate any solids so I stick to liquids like premier protein, and muscle milk and other liquids with high protein. I am crying now from the cramps. I can't even walk when it happens. Please help!!

Thanks so much ,

Hi probably go back to your surgeon on this. We are mostly cancer patients on here. Your op is similar where you have restricted your stomach. Little and often is the key overeating will give you pain. Sugar is a problem.

Good Luck

Hi Felisha,

Sounds to me like you are suffering from a general food intolerance because of your operation. I have had very similar problems to overcome and I had to live on thin soups and no solids and I gradually introduced small amounts of things like mashed potatoe and non- dairy ice cream and soya yoghourt and found that as my body learned to tolerate these foods I could try new things, but beware of trying to go too fast with it. You can get lactose free cheeses and other things, but I just stick to soya, try it you have nothing to lose. I am two years on and I do still get problem days, I had cancer of the oesophagus.

You have to learn to eat all over again to avoid the cramping which is awful. I had domperidone and buscopal prescribed and it sorted out the abdominal cramps, but the food thing you have to re-learn by trial and error.

I know it sounds odd but the small jars of baby food might help you as well.

I hope this helps a little and good luck with your recovery

Best wishes

Richard

My husband had his surgery in August 2017 and had the same problem. I'm pleased to say that the issues have passed and he can now eat anything.

Hello There,

How pleasing to hear your husband can eat anything, I would say he is a very lucky chap and I send my congratulations on such a complete recovery.

There are still many things I can't eat without serious food dumping issues, but you have to look on the bright side, at least I am still here to eat!

Good Luck

Richard

Thanks so much. Since this post, I had surgery for blockages. I feel safer just sticking to liquids. To afraid to eat. I appreciate the info and will talk to my Dr about what you said for cramping. Hopefully it will help. :)
