Stomach pain
Hi, I am only 4 months post op but I have an extremely sore right side. Seems to be right on my bottom ribs. Hurts like heck to breath in deep or if I reach above my head. Feels like someone has kicked me and I am bruised. No one seems to be able to tell me why either.
This is a common problem, the pain from the large incision made in your side will take months or even years to go as the nerves and muscles slowly repair themselves. I am afraid it is part of the price you pay for such major surgery.
Thank you for responding, so many different aches and pains and considerations but like you, I am grateful to be here.
I also suffer from this problem, it is not a pain now, more like constant discomfort but not bad enough to take painkillers. This is why the surgeons now try keyhole surgery because there is less pain afterwards. One Doctor told me I might have this for the rest of my life. I think exercise helps after your initial (one year) recovery.
I am trying to ask every day however can only do about half an hour. My back is still in pretty bad shape from being in bed for two months straight.
Hi slibohnb how long ago did you have your op. If I did not have the pain all would be good hurts more after food as well lab
Hi, I had my op in January 2018. They started with keyhole but it went on so long (10hours) they reverted to open surgery at the end. Three all clear scans since so they did a marvellous job. Mr Lorenzi, Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford.
Hi janashlin yes you are on the road for recovery. It takes months. It’s a very big op. Keep your pain relief up for a while yet. Just remember the surgeons have done so much inside and it takes ages to heal. But you will get there all the best. Lab
Thank you, glad to know it’s part of ‘normal’ recovery. I wish you well.
Also I no they break a rib sometimes to get where they need to be. How’s your eating going if I can help in any way just ask.
I can eat however I am having what they call dumping syndrome at least once a day and sometimes more often. It seems to be more volume related than food type. If I eat more than a cup I end up with an episode. I have lost 44 pounds since my operation however I had weight to lose. I had severe nausea so I now on CBD oil twice a day. I spent 2 months in ICU, had a chyle leak and then had sepsis and nearly died a few times. Tough few months on my family.
Yes you need to eat little and often. Doctors should be able to give you anti sickness tablets. And a little gentle exercise will help you get stronger. It’s always hard on family’s. Lab
