Loss of confidence in walking.

For years, I have had a fear of walking over shiny, polished floors, even with a walking stick.

my breathing isn't good. I have chest conditions. A lesser condition is circulatory. Overweight and being short make things difficult. I am a lot better with a rollator.

As a retired nurse, I want to know why shiny floors bother me. A fear of falling?

Hi Annie,

Who knows, do you think it is OCD, have you been diagnosed with OCD Annie?

Knowing if your fear of shiny floor is OCD or not depends not on the reason, but if you have all the components that would make up a diagnosis of OCD, so the initial obsessive fear, it would only be OCD if that led to anxiety, leading to compulsions. I think it would need to be an OCD cycle for a hour a day or more to be diagnosed as OCD. This image from the OCD-UK website illustrates better.

I hope this helps understand if it is an OCD fear or not.

Kind regards, Ashley.
