Hi
Can anyone recommend a OCD therapist?
The ability to reply to this post has been turned off.
I had a look online & put my postcode in and they came up. I did have a general therapist through the NHS but with OCD I think it's best to get one who's specialised in this field. I'm seeing a Psyciatrist this week & I'm going to ask him about it. I have contamination OCD what's your OCD if u don't mind me asking
It's difficult to suggest a particular therapist, but if you go to your GP and ask for a referral to a Community Mental Health Team they should be able to allocate you a therapist who deals with OCD.
The private sector, if you choose to go down that route, has a number of hazards to watch for. Any therapist or organization that claimed an easy cure is to be avoided. And avoid any therapist or organization that demands money before telling you what their treatment consists of and how it works. All reputable and trustworthy therapists are open and honest about what they do.
Make sure that any therapist you get uses CBT techniques.
I don't know if you've considered self help books, but they can be very useful, either while waiting for treatment or as a supplement to it. There are quite a few out there. I've found Overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and The OCD Workbook helpful myself.
