Preventative Relapse Plan

My Psychologist has recommended a Preventative Relapse Plan rather than CBT. Has anyone had similar experiences with this type of therapy?

I haven't heard of it, though I have heard of plans that aim to keep you well rather than tackling the OCD directly. It sounds more like something that you have when you have recovered well from OCD.

It does help to follow some rules to stop you from relapsing. Enough activity to keep you occupied without overdoing things, plenty of variety in what you do, breaking up rigid routines, eating properly and exercise are all things that can help.

Is there any more information about the plan you have been prescribed?

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t had a follow up letter yet from my Psychologist so I’m waiting to see what the next steps will be.

It’s been 2 weeks since the initial consultation - I understand we are dealing with unusual times but if I haven’t heard anything by next week, then I will be in contact with him!

HI

I hadnt heard of it, but I went for a walkbout on the web and I found a way to list a number of sites which quote the Preventive Plan and they all seem scholarly articles, so they should be trusted more than just any old article.

Plenty to read for you therefore, albeit boring at times maybe, being scholarly - but at least it should you give you just enough knowledge to ask pertinent questions to your psychologist - and, at the same time, you get a bonus, in finding out what exactly he is talking about and how much he knows on the subject.

Hope this gives you the knowledge you are looking for.

Cheers

Ho Gaz0404, I have had contamination OCD for 26 years now. I have been to Springfield Hospital in London 4 times, I am prone to relapse so it's termed as refeactory now. The last time I was at Springfield my therapist DID draw up a Relapse Prevention Plan .. yes, it consisted of keeping up with the ERP a type of CBT, and I was having follow up phonecalls for up to a year after. I was absolutely terrified of having yet another relapse it was the rhought of I will never be able to go back down there again my therapist and Dr Drummond said, otherwise they would have to clise the unit down. I had a better life for nine months but was not free far from it. They tried me out on various medications and the one that's supposed to help with relapse prevention is Escitalopram which I have been taking since 2012 now. But apparently if someone has epilepsy then that makes the OCD harder to treat , and Dr Drummond said that I am a special case where medication is concerned. I have had severe epilepsy from the age of one when I was also diagnosed with viral Encephalitis at the same time, and my grand mals stopped at age 17 . I am in my fourties now and have been free ever since but I still have to take them to prevent them returning again. I also have been assessed for Deep Brain Stimulation but Professor Matthews said that 'he didn't want me to be the guinea pig'. He blamed my A E D's and benzodiapines I have apparently bern dependant on them ALL my life, and these are the cognitive side effects and poor concentration but the ball is not in my court because I still require them. All I was getting thtown at me I had to carry on with my therapy nonstop throughout the day without a break on my own and the only time I had a break was when I went to bed so I could not keep it up at that rate fot long I stressed myself out that much it resulted in another relapse. In the meantime I'm on the waiting list for Springfield again. I wish they stopped blaming me for something that is not my fault I get.rhis off my C.M.H.T they are absolutely useless and hopeless.
