Hi can anyone enlighten me... I’ve had a really good couple of weeks were anxiety and obsessing having been minimal, however these last 3 days it seems to have peaked again! I’m constantly scared about leaving my husband during an anxiety attack! I’m scared it will get to much and i will just run away and leave him! I really don’t want this to happen... it terrifies me! Anyone have any ideas how I can combat this? I’m on a waiting list for cbt but the current wait is 9 months! So any advice would be greatly appreciated! My husband is my absolute world and I don’t want my anxiety to cause me to leave him!

It is OCD! And OCD likes to attack you just where something matters most to you. In this case, your husband.

Remember that your OCD takes this form because you care so much about your husband. If that weren't the case, OCD would not be targeting your relationship.

My OCD only gives me woolly woos, as I call them, about things I care about. I know it's alarming, but if you were serious about leaving your husband, OCD wouldn't be telling you that you might do it.

It's a pity that OCD patients have to wait for CBT but there are things you can do in the meanwhile. Self help books can give you a boost. Re-read the bits that you find most helpful. Try the exercises in them.

It isn't particularly easy, but the trick is to learn to allow thoughts that you might leave your husband to drift into your mind without trying to push them out, observing them and then allowing them to float away of their own accord. Don't ruminate over them.

Also remember that you are bound to have good days and not so good days, and the OCD can subside for a while, or peak for a few days. Feeling bad today doesn't mean you'll feel bad tomorrow. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much!! I tell myself all the time if I really wanted to leave I wouldn’t get so obsessive and anxious about it but then I think what if I really want to leave but don’t want to admit it?!? But I honestly don’t want to leave I would rather not be here than be without him honestly!! Thank you so much for replying I really appreciate it!
