Hi, I'm new here. I've been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. my problem is having to have things clean ( counters, floor swept).I was wondering does this run in family because my father, sister and daughter has some form of it. Thanks.

It is the case that a predisposition to OCD can run in families, so the condition could be part genetic. Learned behaviour in a family could also influence the form that OCD takes in an individual. But nobody is to blame! I hope that you are getting good treatment for it.

Thanks. I take meds (paxil) for it and it helps. But been off them for 2 weeks because of a stupid Doctor. Have a new Doc and probably going back on them this week. I'll have to look into this further.

It's not good that your doctor took you off them, particularly as stopping suddenly can lead to very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. CBT also helps, so I hope you are being offered it.

I will talk to my new Doctor. I will be getting counseling also. The guy is a jerk to stop meds completely. Had to go to ER to get a supply.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is most effective for OCD. Medication should help you get the most out of it.
