Hi, I have had a steroid injection in my knee, and it hasn't worked to relieve the pain. In fact, the pain and swelling is worse. Has anyone else suffered this after injection?

Steroid Injection in Knee
Yes I have had the same. I've been having the injections for a couple of years now. I find that they no longer work like they should. Last one I had did nothing even after 3 weeks I was still in pain and knee was swollen. I just managed to rest it for a week or so and that helped settle it down a bit as well as wearing a support. Although wearing a support is frowned uopn. I think mine is past the point of injections now. But at 49 they still say too young to have a replacement knee. All I can say try rest and elevate it as much as you can. Good luck and hope you get some sort of relief soon.
Thank you for your reply. This is my first injection in the knee. I did have one in my left hip which lasted well over two years. I had the hip replaced last September, and that's when the left knee pain flared up. It could be that the hip surgery caused trauma to the knee (which was already arthritic). The consultant gave me the injection in the knee last December and it didn't work at all, in fact the pain and swelling grew worse after the injection. I believe that there may be something else going on as well as the arthritis and I have made my concerns known to the consultant, who has agreed to see me in his clinic this coming Friday. He said he will investigate it fully. I made it clear to him that I am really worried that I may have Osteonecrosis in my knee. I am aware that somewhere down the line, I will need to have the left knee replaced, but I am anxious to get it sorted out, as I am due to have the right hip replaced in March. Sorry it's such a long drawn out reply. I wish you well with your knee problem, as I know the feeling of pain in the joints.
