Hi, I have OA in my right hip diagnosed 3 years ago and slow increase in pain. In July I saw my GP as pain was at an all time high, I was sent for an xray and got a consultant referral. Saw consultant in August and have an appointment in new year for a hip replacement as it's now bone on bone.

My pain meds started with cocodamol and naproxen, in Sept I was also prescribed amitriptyline and 2weeks ago morphine patches. Also tried all the lotions and potions on the market.

I work in a high school as a teaching assistant which does involve lots of walking and standing which isn't good. Currently on half term which goodreat as my hip has now started locking up, it happens at different times and in different positions when I'm walking, sitting, even in bed not looking forward to going back to work.

Anyway thats me, and where I'm at with my arthritis I'm hoping I'll be able to help others in this group.

Welcome HipHipClunk, we are pleased to have you to the site. I am sorry about your unfortunate pain. The kind of pain you are describing can be excruciating and annoying at the same time. You are correct, taking it easy is one of the major keys, do not overwork your hip. However, you want to work within moderation, but if you are unable, do not be afraid to ask for help. Having a walking device is a good idea too, for this will assist with balance. Lastly, try not to gain extra weight, because this will cause you to have your joints work even harder. Wish you all the best. Keep us informed of your progress.

Thank you. It's getting the balance of rest and activity right I'm struggling with especially at work. I'm back at work next week and will see how it goes then talk to my line manager to see what options I have. So far they have been very helpful but I'm not sure how much more they can do to accommodate my reduced mobility.

So sorry to hear this - I've got it all to come as relatively OK for now (trying not to think about it!)

I've only had Xrays on knees but I know it's spreading to shoulders hands hips plus bunions which I gather are also OA .... just keeping going with yoga/pilates and lots of walking while I can... x
