Immersed in a new podcast series: Recalibrating the nervous system, here is episode 1 for you. Sometimes it's helpful to listen to information rather than reading it. Maybe this medium suits you. Just 20 minutes - expanding more on the 3 key levers of coherent breath.
Engineer, inventor and life scientist Stephen Elliott is credited with giving the name to this self-regulating breath - coherent breath. This is where we begin.
As Stephen says:
'Coherent breathing is an evolving science: The current understanding is that benefits are ultimately an outcome of improved brain function via enhanced circulation in the brain, this, and care and feeding of every cell in the body.’
The three key levers of coherent breath
Breathing through the nose. A non-negotiable when it comes to breath for health.
Breathing into the belly. We might call this, ‘taking the breath down’.
Breathing at a rate of 5 rounds of breath per minute.
You might be curious to know there are other levers to explore, however for the purposes of laying a strong foundation to begin with, the above three creates a fabulous entry. So launch your own curiosity and research assignments that will help you simply be more aware of the relationship between your breath and your inner state.
May you breath well, feel well, live well.
