Seems to me that's something only you and he can decide, really. But honestly, why not?? You don't say whether his 9 years on mtx have been relatively plain sailing but it does suggest that he's not been the most demanding patient on the Rheumy's list. With an unhelpful GP why shouldn't he phone the Rheumy department in the full expectation of someone listening and helping? Appointments are often brought forward and June's a long time away. Is there a Rheumatology nurse he could talk to for starters?

Hi Luce-thanks,he is a patient patient!but I see the length of time he is affected following the reduction in dose-it has been relatively plain sailing with only one or two flare ups a year till last year when it was all over the place, new bumps, dodgy eyes, more fatrigue etc,so thanks. He will contact the nurse-if I have anything to do with it.
I would most definitely phone the rheumy clinic for an earlier appointment or at least telephone advice. My GP won't get involved in anything RA related and just advises me to speak to the rheumy so perhaps your husband's is the same. If the side effects and blood tests are ok now you would expect a step up of dose would be due.

Hi Paulywoo-thanks for thte advice, now to work on him as he doesnt like to bother anyone, but I see the effects of the lower dose more than him;am not saying I suffer like him but the fatigue makes him less likely to take action. Thanks again
Hi,
I am also onMTX and every time that the dosage is reduced I get a flare up. I have been unable to keep on the higher dose 7.5mg as the specialist wants to reduce to 5mg. I have found that getting monthly blood tests and being able to view the results on line from my GP. If I notice that the ESR is increasing I contact the consultant directly this does take a bit of effort but the benefits of less pain is well worth the effort. As you are on the consultants books get in touch and ask for help maybe there is a different medication that will suit you better. I sat back and just waited for my appointments in the past and suffered with the pain. Make it work for you, good luck.
