I asked my GP about a blood test for latex allergy ....

and he said there isn't one!!

So I am none the wiser to if if it is the plastic sticking plaster or the adhesive which makes me prickle and get a pink embossed print on my arm (quite apt for a printmaker!)

I am sure when E-Day arrives (as Christine calls my first Enbrel) later in April all will become clear ... Or Pink! Hopefully not. Seriously I hope not.

So, I did a bit of googling and apparently you CAN test for latex allergy but it's a skin prick test!

Noo I dint think at all you are a stalker!! Heh heh! Thank you for the info. I don't know why he didn't know of what you have found! Perhaps he thinks I am one of those strange people who enjoy lots of hospital visits and tests. Waaah absolutely not.

I have to do double Fentanyl starting tomorrow so will need matchsticks or duct tape to keep my eyelids open.

Thank you once again! I had a coffee a little while ago but only a wimpy M&S decaff instant but it was a change as I usually drink tea and all manner of herbal teas and hot cordials. Oh and hot choc too of course!

I have type n1 latex allergy and i did have this confirmed many years ago by blood tests.the Latex Allergy Support Group lasg.org.uk/ should be able to help with telling you what tests to ask for.

Latex alergy blood tests can be done with a routine blood test...... RA + latex on the generic hospital forms.

Where has your doctor been for his haematology (blood) tuition?.

I have no idea and am pretty p@ssed off with a lot of things I m being messed about with recently with this pre Enbrel screening. No one is communicating to me and I am being left in limbo. I have been on the phone many times o the hospital chasing people round and itvis all getting a it farcical now. I can shine from what he said he has never been asked about

it from a patient before. He has been very hr,pful in many other ways recently so I have to chase this up with my rheumatologist. Leave her a message on the helpline. Then I eo t probsbly bother and just ask the healthcare at home team before they come once I know when they are coming if anyone decides to tell me!

I have found info now on latex tests and it is the RAST test which actually is a blood test, as well as the skin prick test and there's also a glove test!

Hi Neonkitty,I think we spoke on here before.I had the blood test for latex allergy.Sounds like your doctor doesn't know what he is talking about.I scored high for the allergy.At the moment I am on NRT patches for giving up smoking and my arm goes red and itchy from these patches,so I think they must have latex in the glue somewhere.xx

Ouch, sorry Rita for your irritation. Hope they are working anyhow. Best of luck with that. I didn't argue with the GP as he has been so great in lots of other ways. My pain relief and supporting me for injections and also when the Atos/DWP tried to send me to work. I think it is adhesive too. I csn get itchy under the Fentanyl patches as well. Want to scratch them but that is the is the thing one should do. thanks for your advice, Rita. Think we should start an Action Group ... Say No to Latex! I looked on the latex links I was given earlier and itvis everywhere. Even in the gs like Always pant liners which I suspected as they made me sensitive on the inner thigh if the adhesive touched me. I read Bodyform are non latex covers and they are better products. Horrified also to hear latex is in some tampons.

Yes,I found this with pant liners and pads with the wings.Chocolate wrappers that are sealed,remote control buttons,latex is everywhere! I am keeping on with the patches as they helped me give up smoking before.Gave up for three and a half years and stupidly went back to it! Just have to put up with the sore and itchy arms.xx

I know, you want to itch the pat he's off don't you! But dangerous to touch them in case it sends a sudden surge of meds through all at once in the case of Fentanyl. I am appalled at latex everywhere. I think it is more the adhesive for me. Obviously though if I want a test I have to ask someone other than the GP I saw recently!! I always. Ut the tops off sealed this as I csnt pull them open easily so I don't encounter those. Think it is the sticky latex things that bother me. Keep on with the patches and you will feel so much better I know!
