Hi Trica, I get this from time to time and it lasts a few days. I have just accepted it as one of those things. Don't forget to seek medical advice if you worry about it. GPs and RA doctors are there for us.

Yes,I have pain in my toes and ankle....I think RA attacks the fingers and toes badly. All part of it. You know, what we need is someone with a high profile to get RA and then bring a lot of publicity to the disease. So many people don't seem to know or understand that it is different from osteoarthritis. Maybe we would then hear more about the research x

Yes, before i was diagnosed i actually went to see a doctor about this, at that time i thought how weird it was to have a pain like that in my foot, but i was on my feet at least 9 hours a day, so i put it down to that, But the GP told me that it was to do with the shoes i wear, they are to flat and that they have no support around the foot, they were like a ballet shoes without the support, i am sure you know what i mean, BUT THAT WAS WRONG!!!! as i know now it was the start of RA'

I still get it now and then, Hope you are feeling better soon XX

Thank you so much! I thought it was my shoes, but found out their is a major joint on the side of the foot, so guess it is some of my RA. After some of the RA pain I have had in the past, this is "so far" a piece of cake. I have started taking the infusion of Remicade and it is a miracle drug for me. Stay well!

Hi- I also have pain in the joints of my feet. My GP referred me to a podiatrist who made inserts for me. He recommended I get shoes that don't bend at the toes big joint as this rests the joints. I bought New Balance sneakers and when I have to walk a distance they work great with the inserts. They have a lot of padding in the soles as well. What a difference. Barking Dogs web site is great as Kristi reviews shoes that work for our feel and some look very stylish. She also has RA in her feet so she understands our problems first hand. The address is:

Take care,

I am always looking for shoes for my rather deformed feet so thankyou for that website. I will certainly give them a look. At present I live in trainers but, with the summer coming up [if it comes this year!] it would be nice to find something I could wear with a skirt. I am fed up wearing trousers all the time. x

I agree. I like to look stylish and plan to get some that I can wear all day. Wearing sneakers with my new Cashmere sweater my husband bought me just doesn't cut it but at least I could walk and have a lovely meal at a fancy restaurant!

All the best

Whether its RA or not (could also be plantar fasciitis), its definitely worth spending the money to get decent shoes that support and cushion your foot. I now wear Josef Siebel shoes and at around £70 they are reasonably pricey, but I suffer badly with plantar fasciitis and decent shoes with lovely springy soles and full leather uppers are definitely part of what keeps me able to walk. Reasonable quality trainers can be really good too, as they are designed to protect the sole of the foot from impact.

My first point of RA was in my feet, starting at ball of foot,it felt like I had a stone under my foot everytime I walked,it was ecpxcduciating and I walked on my heel, for weeks, then in April,it was in my fingers then knees etc, looking back I do now know this was the start of RA for me.i but hotters and fit flops, very cushioned and feel fantastic as if walking in air,I have then in sparkly sandals to suede boots, best thing I have ever brought for my poorly feet.i think a lot of people with RA start off with the small joints of feet toes and fingers.I also have felt your pain alongside side of feet.good footwear is a must for me take care Michelle xx

Thank you so much, gosh we just forget sometimes huh? When I first started with RA 16 years ago, it was my foot and I just forgot through the years. I take the infusion of Remicade now and it is a miracle drug (so far) for me. I guess I just didn't expect it in my foot. Compared to the other pain in the past this is ok. Guess we always have something, but God has been so.................good to me. Thanks xx

Sorry excruciating x

Hi all

Foot problems are incredibly common in those with RA, and Tricia if you are concerned please do let your consultant know that you've started to experience pain in your feet again.

I thought you might all find it interesting to have a read of the new foot health section of our website: nras.org.uk/about_rheumatoi...

Kind regards

Sarah Kate
