I was turned down for DLA in July. At first I wasn't going to appeal, but I've found that by not being in receipt of DLA that this closes lots of other doors. I feel quite aggrieved because I own this label of being disabled due to my RA, but cannot access any of the appropriate services.
Any ideas?

First and foremost you must appeal. When you get the forms you will have to go through the same procedure that you did before. Put everything down that affects your day to day living no matter how trivial it sounds. Go to c.a.b.and get help to fill in the forms. Don't give up.

Hi Traceyanne
As Sylvi has mentioned it is a good idea to appeal the decision. There is a useful booklet available to download from the 'AdviceNow' website called 'Turned down for DLA? Or think you're not getting enough?': advicenow.org.uk/advicenow-...
The CAB or DIAL (disability information advice lines) may be able to provide further support when filling in the DLA forms. To find your nearest branches please follow the links below.
Hi Traceyanne, you only have 4 weeks from date of letter to appeal so you'd best get a move on if you intend to appeal.
DLA assessments and having a label of disabled person is not about the condition but how it affects your daily life and the limitations it places on you.
Benefits and work website is another great source of information, but you'll need to get a move on and inform DWP you wish to appeal or ask for a review.
Hi Tracey, I got turned down too 4 weeks ago, I have asked them to look at the decision again and sent back a more detailed letter plus another from a friend, another friend also wrote in separately and this arrived before mine, only problem was she wrote appeal on her letter so they sent me a form to complete that the appeal should have been written on, another problem was that they had sent this to me with her name on it. I rang through and I was told my 4 page letter was not even looked at because my friends letter said appeal. He looked at my file and said that I had enough written for a decision to be looked at again and so he would send this in, He also said an appeal would take 18months where as to have it looked at again takes 12 weeks, I received a letter yesterday to say I will have a reply after 11weeks. So now I wait again. Ps I also got my ESA finally, I was put in a support group, not sure what that means yet, But I can sympathise as I am feeling a little better now and really don't want to be classed as disabled but I have no money and no job and no hope of an employer wanting me with all my fourbles.
on the communities site on the top of the page click on FibroAction
go to FibroAction site,
click on fibro and benefits
this should take you to the benefits and work link where you can download the pdf booklet that helps you fill in forms for DLA - it goes through each question. good luck. sandra
Don't ever try to do an appeal on your own - use the disability person at CAB. If you phone CAB and say its about an appeal, and give them the date you have to submit it by, then they will usually try and see you quickly.
However, if its been more than four weeks you will have missed out this time. The best thing you can do now is wait until you are allowed to reapply, and submit a completely new form. Only this time, make absolutely sure that you get CAB to help you fill it in - they way you will have much more chance of success, AND if it has to be appealed they will be more likely to be able to help you.
