My orthotist has created some really good orthotics for me which cater for my flat arches and my "pronating" ankles. (They sort of roll inwards.) They are fine in boots and lace up shoes. But my feet have been so terribly hot lately...a combination of inflammation and the weather.
Do any of you know any sandals I can wear that might do a similar job? I would so love to wear a pretty dress just for once. Without boots!.
(I did try putting my supports in some sandals but looked like an idiot when they started slipping out at the back!!)

Our podiatrist recommended in a general, that you wear sandals as little as possible. But there are some that are better than others. She said that arch support and some with a nubby bit by the ball of your feet are the better ones to have. But for them to be really effective they have to "cling" to your foot and give the whole foot support! Bit difficult.
A lot of people recommend Hotters and Mephisto. I bought some Wolky sandals from the Footwearcountry website expensive but so worth it. Can walk for ages in them, comfy and supportive in the right places and adjustable if you feet swell up a bit during the day.
Hi Phoebi, I'm new to all this so forgive me if I get it wrong. My main foot prob is swelling. If you can wear boots I'm thinking you may be able to wear something like the fashion shoes my daughter has, they're like boots at back and sides but are open and lace up at the front. I'm not saying these would be good for everyday wear but may be suitable for now and then. A couple of good website for nice fashionable very wide shoes are... Viva La Diva and Hush Puppies Babs xx
Hi,
I have spent endless hours trying to find nice shoes!
I am also waiting to see a podiatrist, I expect I have similiar feet problems as yourself but I have found some lovely sandals by Rieker, I found then locally where I live but now see them everywhere, even clarks had them on sale for a while. They are dressy, very comfy and the soles are soft, padded and have some arch support. The upper also covers foot very well so it doesn't slide or flap.
If you have a search I have just found them on sale;

The ones I got are there, realm ladies purple mule, they are much nicer than shown, expensive but soooo worth it
I expect the other shoes have the same type of soles and would be just as comfy.
Good luck
ps, I got lots of good advice on this question also when I asked Nice shoes? worth a read
It might be worth going back thru the archives in blogs as us girls have had lots of discussions regarding this particular problem! Its a scourge, and the only certain thing is that you will know when you put a pair on that they are the ones, so leave a few hours to look around and try on, some sandles like hotters have removable beds to put your orthotics in, I personally love skechers lites in black for work, my feet/ ankles are quite damaged - Reikers/ hotters/ mephisto/ maybe fitt flops.
Hi Gina, I did read somewhere that Fitflops are not good for feet which suffer with RA - there is not enough support where it is needed. I ended up throwing mine out as I just could not wear them for more than about 10 minutes otherwise ankles particularly suffered. I have some very stylish Hotter sandals which look good with summer dresses and trousers. LavendarLady x
You are quite right about fitt flops, I wore them one summer and then when went back to ordinary shoes had problems. Ah but they are so comfy (not for any distance tho, My trainers are my most reliable for bad days - third pair of same skechers great ankle support! I find changing my sandles shoes regularly say every 6 hours helps too! Of how I would love a new left ankle & foot & wrist
Hi Phoebe, I wear sandals from widerfitshoes.co.uk they are quite expensive but are worth it . They are made to fit orthotics and are very comfy and cool in the hot weather!
