Methotrexate - rashes

Is there a 'common' location for rashes if you are going to get one? But presumably it can be anywhere?

hands and wrists is often were bit it could be else were it would start as previous blogs./ ansers the rash off concern is tiny red dots like spider mire bites or attack with red felt pen.. it will not itch. it is on the skin surface.. if I doubt show rash to local. pharmacist, gp, rhuem nurse.. who ever you trust most medically

I have a rash on my face but not bad visually but it can be itchy and feels 'bumpy'...

I assume it is caused by methotrexate

sorry, can I also add to your question, I had dark pigment patches throughout pregnancy which did go away but have now come back (baby 7 months) is this also side effect? or just my hormones.....

Pigmentation patches in preg do happen cant remember medical name without looking it up and cetainly cant spell it without looking it up.!!. some types of oral contraception can also cause these pigmentation patches to occur/ reoccur

soory wiliby its enbrel you use isnt it? between 1 in 10 and 1 in 100 patients can have an allergic skin reaction to enbrel this is usually hives.. red wheel like. roundish patches that itch these are on the face and or neck

Thanks Alison, no Enbrel yet, waiting for THE phone call to tell me it's in :)

I add (rash/pigment) it to my ever growing list of side effects for my poor consultant.

:) x

methotrexate abbreviated side effect list is posted on burgundy corals blog the sun has got its hat on!!. full list will be on the patient info leaflet,.. any news rashes. side effects should be reported to your nearest medical professional and advice sort

I couldn't feel more strongly about methotrexate if I tried. It burnt the whole of my face & made my hair fall out. That was 18 months ago since I last took methotrexate. My hair is still burnt & falling out. My consultant denied that methotrexate was responsible for this, but once I stopped taking it, my skin cleared up.

Oh blimey ~Andrea - not good. I haven;'t exactly got a rash but my fingers and wrists are itching like b******* an it is mildly annoying, nothing like the reaction you had. How rotten, especiall the hair. I know mine has thinned out, but you can;t say any more than that really. Seems like it affects everyone differently, just everything else wih Ra - nothing is predictable.

Take care Julie xxx

i too got a rash with mtx but no doc would agree with me and i ended up getting 2 biopsy, they came back with exzema which i didnt believe as skin ok before mtx, then hair thinned and r/nurse upted folic from 1 a week to 6 days never on mtx day, end result= rash now gone plus hair not falling out as fast, i was in a mess with the rash i was so bad i hated to go out, i got the creams as well and antihistamines,be carefull of the sun as i end up with skin that feels like bubble wrap which does settle down again in time,do use 50+ sun cream even if you are only out 1/2hr,good luck.

Hi I have been on mtx since july 2010, my skin is awful, i have very bad dry red patches around my nose and they just will not go, tried everything, i haven't been offered steroid cream, should I request this next time i go to the hospital.

My hair went very thin when i first started taking mtx, but seems to be okay at the moment, but I have very thick hair anyway, could be because its summer, .x.x
