need help on how to prevent migraine's after taking methotrexate injection
Hi, I haven't had this problem even though I have done the injections and am susceptible to migraines. But I have never had infliximab.
My migraines did seem to improve once I started taking anti-inflammatories regularly.
However, a couple of thoughts.
First, do you have folic acid tablets and do you take them for several days after the MTX.
And second, my pharmacist told me to drink water regularly to prevent all my medications building up in my system. And I do know that dehydration can be a problem with migraines. Would that help?
Hopefully someone with similar problems will be along soon.
It must be dreadful for you.
Hi i was on methotrexate tablets and they wanted to swop me over to injections so i did try them but got such bad migraines and also such a sore tongue (geographic tongue!) that i got changed back to tablets and i was back to normal. i do get a headache the day after taking them but i make sure i drink a lot of water as Phoebe suggests and i have increased my folic acid from just 1 - 2 days after to an extra 1 - 1 day before and it has helped, perhaps you could try the water and folic acid. I take Migraleve tablets for my migraines which i find work really well.

I know if I've forgotten to take my folic acid as get real thumping head. And if I take one the head goes about 30 mins later. Otherwise can't suggest anything , sorry. Polly
HI, The same thing is happening to me at the moment, awful headaches, my GP told me today to split the dose, I still haven't taken it yet though as I had to go to bed and rest, took all the pain relief possible, didn't really help though. I am so scared of taking it as the headaches are so so painful and nothing seems to really help. So I may have to come off of it again, please let me know if you come up with an answer. HERE'S HOPING for both of us.
Methatraxate is the devil as far as I am concerned. It gave me terrible headaches, made me very tired, and very short tempered. I could not bear it any longer and I came off it. I take enbrel and hydroxicloriqine and am fine. ERS is just 8. See if your RA Consultant will take you off it and try something else. You don't have to suffer, there are other things that can be done.
Muffin.
Hi. I'm taking methotrexate tablets and have recently started having horrible migraines. Not sure why but am thinking of stopping methrotrexate.
This question has cheered me up a bit (sorry not at your expense - migraines are foul) because I see that Muffin takes Enbrel and Hydroxy and I am hopefull that now I'm off MTX this might be the solution for me as well. The injections work more effectively on the RA and for many they do minimise the side effects. For me they worked well for about 3 months re side effects and then it all started up again just as with the pills. But we are all different and if I had to go back on MTX it would always be by injection now. Tilda x
