methotrexate change

Started Methotrexate 20/12 with Prednisolone injection as well to deal with immediateflare/s.

In 2025 I have 6 flares of which 3 in the last week of M,arch. I conclude MTX is not for me and a change is needed.

Hi it’s a shame you feel that methotrexate is no longer working for you which can happen sometimes. You probably need to have a word with your rheumy team as they may wish to tweak the dose or perhaps add another DMARD to prop it up. Unfortunately this is a common occurrence so don’t give up on methotrexate yet get advice and support from your rheumy team I’m sure they should help you out. Good luck I hope things stabilise for you again soon but reach out to your docs sooner rather than later.

I found that methotrexate on its own is not sufficient, they normally add an extra dmard to help

It's more likely that your rheumy team will suggest adding in another of the DMARDs unless you are also having unacceptable side effects, as a combination of DMARDs is often successful in controlling the inflammation.

Have a look at the treatment pages on the NRAS website so that you are prepared for your consultation. nras.org.uk/information-sup...

Thanks Old timer, had my consultation today. Outcome is the consultant said, Methotrexate fine, so no change. The fact I am having 3 flares a week seemingly not due to RA. We will see! Thanks for the advice , I'll put it on the back burner.
