Hi everyone. I have Methotrexat orally weekly ( 2.5 mg *8). I have recently developed a very bad dry cough. In the product information leaflet for the drug, this is indicated as a common side effect, which can lead on to pneumonia and other lung inflammatory conditions.
Has anyone else had this side effect ?

Hi Swedish man,I know where your coming from as it effect me also.I am on 15mg once a week and have been on them fro nearly 3 years.I have had it checked out and 1 x ray but doctors aren’t concerned. In the warmer weather it goes away for me until I hit the chiller areas of the supermarket. The first low temperatures in winter also bring it back. It’s damned annoying.
Sorry to hear this. Could you ask to change to a biological? I have had the pneumonia jab as I suffer with my chest. I’ve also just bought a radiator duster and cleaned in between my radiators this week as I find the dust expels when the heating is on and makes it worse. You may also have silent acid reflux. Xxx
Not had a cough put more prone to laryngitis. I treat it with steam inhalations, drinking fluids warm drink better for me. Oh and a half spoon of honey.
All that said always a good idea to check with your doctor or RA team.
I'm on MTX since 2010. Periodically I get a dry cough but it's never worried me. Sometimes it'll go on for weeks. I do have a chest scan once or twice a year. Have a chat with your care team, probably best. You will find some excellent information about MRX on the NRAS website. Good luck.
HelloIt is not uncommon to develop a dry but persistent cough on MTX. I would certainly advise you to let your RA team know of it at some point. I also think it will mostly depend on how troublesome the cough is to you. If your RA is well controlled and you can cope with the cough it may be better to put up with it. I did. But if either of those two are not ok, ask to change.
Good luck and I hope you are as well as you can be.
