I had 2 shots in my neck for c5,6 disk degeneration and was fine for 2 months then after a couple of days walking on icy surfaces , I woke to Sever pain and cramping in my right thigh, is two months later reasonable time frame to be associated to the steroid shots
Leg cramps 2 months later ?: I had 2 shots in my neck... - NRAS
Leg cramps 2 months later ?
I get severe cramp on the inside of my thigh, but it hasn’t been round the time of steroids shots. It’s the most excruciating cramp, for me much worse than in the calf.
Not sure what you mean by association with steroid shots. Are you thinking that they might have worn off in two months? Did you slither on an icy surface and wrench something in which case that’s a whole new set of nasties but not associated with the steroids…………sorry if I’m being dense. 🥴
not at all only dumb question is the ones you don't ask (that's why asked about the timing myself). the cramp was on a section not really stretched when I slipped and was so suddenly onset and percedently cramping that I could only think this my be somehow associated with Steroid Flare as I was warned to watch for. Being a saturday morning I was looking for information and calm down before FREAKING OUT. As it is I am massaging Peppermint oil and Balsam Fir Needle oil for the anti-inflammatory properties, still feels a little tight but not painfully cramped.
Oh ok. Firstly you wouldn’t have a steroid flare two months after the shots. That happens within hours or possibly a couple of days but certainly not after eight weeks. The shots are more likely to have worn off if anything (and they were for your cervical spine) so suspect you pulled a muscle in your thigh if you slipped - so easily done - and that takes some time to get over. If it’s still an acute injury add ice to your cramped right thigh and if not use warmth to ease the pain. Have you tried a course of anti-inflammatories? I am a retired orthopaedic sister. If you’re still experiencing severe pain then you’ll need to be seen to rule out anything more problematic but if it’s easing it’s more than likely a strain and will go with gentle exercise and rest and your massage oils. Hope you get relief soon!
As others have said a steroid flare happens straight away, not two months later. Pain in the thigh could also be radiated pain from your back, sometimes where we feel the pain isn't where the pain is coming from. Is it possible that you put some strain on your back when you slipped? Also it could be a spasm from a set of muscles because of walking in a different way on the slippery ground. It sounds like it is easing with what you are doing, so hopefully it will keep going in that direction. Next time you walk on an icy surface, think about how you are holding yourself, and which muscles are being used, it might give you a clue to what is going on and maybe you can head off the spasm before it happens.
If you are having a pain in your thigh l think itvhighly unlikely to be connected to a 2 monthly previous denervation as it would be a lumbar region injection for lower limbs . Sounds as if you were out in cold weather and probably over did the walking .You really need a professional checkup for an accurate diagnosis to ascertain the cause of it.
Hi
It is highly unlikely to be anything to do with your injections. Massage with oils is a good idea and, and so is applying warmth to the area to improve circulation and deliver more oxygen for healing.
If the problem persists it is worth seeking advice from your GP. I hope it improves quickly.
I get horrible cramps after being on prednisone and after cortisone injections - even months after! I found out that my potassium and my B12 were low. Have your doctor check your potassium, b12, and vitamin D. It might just be that you are deficient in one or more vitamins. (Simple blood test that most doctors won't do unless the patient asks). I hope you get some relief.
