Medication monitoring blood tests after being poorly

morning all

Feeling somewhat abandoned by my rheumatology department as no reply to my emails querying this…wondering if you guys can offer any advice.

I’ve been sick with a non Covid virus this week temperatures and sore throat and one day fully in bed. Still not great.

I was planning to get my three monthly blood test on Monday (I’m already a couple of weeks late but plenty of meds in stock so that’s not the end of the world)

But now I’m thinking it’s not the best time to get it done? Should I wait and if so how long for?

Sorry I can’t put you on the payroll for doing Imperial’s rheumatology team job!!

personally I would still get it done. It’s more the LFTs they’re concerned about. If your white cells come back raised, at worst they may phone and check if you currently have an infection. Usually if it’s a viral infection lymphocytes will be raised, if it’s bacterial then neutrophils will be raised. So its useful info to have

Thanks Runrig. I’m partly worried about LFT due to the fact that I’ve had to take paracetamol (well within limits) due to having a fever but I’ve no idea what kind of dosage could have made an impact. Very much appreciate your response.

I’d say the only thing that should stop you having the test is if you’re not well enough to attend or there’s a chance you’re still infectious.

A simple virus is unlikely to significantly affect your test results and if anything is abnormal the likelihood is they just retest in a few weeks.

Just based on my experience.

Thank you. I’m an awful over thinker. I get really stressed before blood tests too and anything out of the ordinary sends me into a spin.

I would have the test. If they spot anything untoward, that could be explained by your virus, they will just ask you to repeat the test. Better to have too many blood tests than not enough imo. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you - makes sense!

Yup if well enough to go for tests go for it. Not sure why you wouldn’t. Take care.

I too am an overthinker..."what if" and that sort of thing ... go for the test if you are Covid and dont feel as thought you are contagious as that ,in itself, is reassuring that you are doing something to check on how you are...you are worth it!!☕💐
