Sjogrens/Lupus and dental sensitivity and face pain.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had trouble with teeth. My teeth are so sensitive and at times the bones in my face feel sore.

Yes. My RA dry mouth created major issues with tooth decay & fragility.

Hi thereI have similar issues and can sympathise.

I keep getting gum abscesses which make it hard to eat. Dentist prescribed antibiotics which meant stopping Benapali injection and Leflunomide.

My right jaw and face bones hurt too. I get a grinding noise when moving right jaw. Rheumy Nurse said it's the RA and suggested I massage the joint regularly !

I have rheumatology appt in January and hope I can see the Rheumatologist instead of the Nurse then. 🤞

Wow my problems are nothing compared to you. Dentist says I have slight infection ina root canal on right side.but not saying how to clear .possible referral to auto dentist? I have gum shield to wear at night they think I might be grinding teeth. Difficult to wear during night when mouth dry. My neck / back of head is sore sensitive taking paracetamol to help with that but hard on stomach. Will have to go back again to dentist ( 3rd visit).having Rituximab Infusion on Monday so would not start antibiotic until after that.

I know how you feel! Because of lack of saliva our teeth are at risk , some of mine can be very sensitive, rubbing the tooth and gum with sensodyne toothpaste can give some relief. I have also been prescribed Duraphat high fluoride toothpaste to help protect my teeth. I avoid crusty bread , chewing gum, or chewier sweets as my teeth can be delicate.

Most of my facial pain is caused by salivary gland dysfunction so I massage the glands which seems to help. Although I hate going , regular dental checkups and Hygenist appointments are necessary , and a big help.

Yes, similar problem. I feel as though I must be clenching my mouth all the time. I have regular 6 monthly dentist and hygienist appointments. No obvious cause, yet!

Thanks for your reply. Really helps when other sufferers give you their suggestions. As not everyone ( Inc medical people) know what Sjogrens is when you mention it. Dentists saying mouth not too dry but I wake up gagging sometimes at night along with gum shield not very comfortable!!. Any suggestions on lip cream my gums are so dry. Currently usingAVENE CICALFATE.

XyliMelts tablets which you get on amazon are good for use at night or if necessary during the day , forget to mention earlier, definitely help with dryness x
