methotrexate tablets v injections

I have been on 25mg MTX now for almost a year along with hydroxychloroquine, etoricoxib and folic acid.

I have had stomach issues (acid) and the high dose of omeprazole caused chronic stomach pains, diarrhoea etc. We swapped the omeprazole for famotodine which seem to be working until MTX day and then I felt sick for a whole week. Moved on to nizatidine which has really helped, but my pharmacist has suggested that the MTX it’s probably causing the acid and I may be better off on injections as it’s kinder for the stomach. Does anyone have similar experiences?

I have been on Methotrexate for many years and like you was started on tabs. I would take them Friday evening and spend the whole weekend with stomach pains. I was also prescribed lansoprazol. I was eventually switched to injections of methotrexate and hey presto stomach pains went and also no longer take Lansoprazol. Injections were a complete game changer for me and for many people who post on this forum. Give it a try and I hope it works well for you too.

The injections put the mtx straight into your body bypassing the stomach so it would probably make a difference to the stomach pain.

injections every time! Changed from tablets four years ago, the difference was amazing.

I swapped from pills to injections 5 months ago, as I suffer from gastritis. Finding it a lot easier with the injections. Due a delivery as have run out, but Sciensus being useless. They’ve had 3 months to sort it 😡

Also swapped to injections due to sickness on tablets about 5 years ago . Symptoms are much improved on injections, made a major difference. Good luck!

Agree, I have existing gastric problems ( IBS and hiatus hernia) so when i started mtx in may this year i asked to go straight onto injection as I read on here oral can have more gastric side effects, and was worried it may intensify fibromyalgia symptoms too.I take folic acid 6 days a week and my GP changed me from omeprazole to lansoprazole to further help protect from gastric problems.

I inject in upper thigh as my stomach is used up with hrt patches!

Sorry not much advice as you would like but I was taking 60mg etoricoxib for roughly 6 months maybe longer and I started being sick with blood so I just stopped it, I also wasn't put on any stomach liners either, however as for it helping me with pain through severe tendonitis it worked quite well.
