Switching from oral to subQ MTX

Hi all,

I am switching from oral to subQ at my request due to nausea and also I read it may be more effective.

Has anyone made this switch before and how did it go? Any words of advice are appreciated.

Thank you!

Helen

I switched few years ago to see if it would work better. Not sure about that but it's a relatively painless injection and easy to do. There is a new style of pen which initially I thought was completely painless but the last few I've done were a little uncomfortable. Hope it helps.

Nothing to worry about.

For me, was more effective than orally - and reduced side effects. Take the box out of the fridge a bit before injecting and drink plenty of fluids . Good luck

I've never heard of keeping Methotrexate in the fridge? 🤔

I used to have to keep mine in the fridge. Not required anymore 😊

I also switched at my request because I did not feel that the 25mg was enough, and that the Injection was more effective. I found this to be the case and have had no side effects. Good luck

Switching to injections and taking folic acid 6 days a week greatly reduced the side effects. Go for it!

Because the injections bypass the gut their effect is enhanced, apparently. I swapped years ago and find the side effects much reduced. The new injector pens are easy peasy to use and, so far, I've never had any pain from them. Good luck!

It was a positive change for me. I prefer to inject rather than fumble with 10 tiny tablets. Side effects are reduced and I think that it works more effectively.
