Hives from MTX?

I was off MTX for a week while sick. The day I went back on I had three very large very itchy welts on my calf. Thought I was bit by something. It got very large. Three days later, still itchy. Several more came out on my same leg. Anyone else have anything similar?

Yes Bonnie when I was on mtx tablets I got hives on the top of my head but now Im on the mtx injection which are painless and far better with less nausia and no more itching.

Thank you for responding. Now I know that the other two times this happened with only one big ugly welt it wasn’t what the GP thought could have been MRSA. Rather a reaction to MTX.

Hi Bonnie. Yes, I do. Every week after I take methotrexate on a Monday, on the Thursday I come out in itchy red spots which usually go by Sunday. Some weeks are worse than others. I've had them around my ankle, on my stomach and this week on my left wrist. They vary in number each week from 2 to 5. I showed the specialist nurse at my last check up (there were 5 around my ankle) and she just said to keep an eye on them and let her know when I next see her in a couple of months if I'm still getting them. I feel for you because they are so itchy!

I had three together on the left side of my left calf and the lump got very large and hot to touch. Then one popped out by my knee, two more on the back of my upper calf and another on the back of my lower calf. Only on the left leg. My rheumy wants me to go with the injections but I’m a bit of a chicken. Thank you, Dobcross1.

Sorry I should have said, I'm on the injections and find them better than the tablets. It honestly doesn't hurt! However since I went from 10ml to 15ml the dreaded spots started! But I'm hoping they'll settle down. 😁

Hope they don’t last and are just something happens until your body adjusts. I’m still debating over the shots. My prescription is for Rasuvo. I guess it’s a generic brand of MTX.

Sorry you're suffering 😥 the injections are ok because they are like a big epi pen and are easy to use and you don't see the needle. Give them a try x

Thank you for the encouragement. It’s like everyday first I say, ok this week, mid-day I say maybe next week, and by the end of the day I’m back to no again. I’ll be sure to post when I make a final decision. 😊
