Has anyone had dental implants while on MTX? Did you come off it? Any negatives with the healing process? I already have 2 implants which were done years ago pre RA and now having lost a few more teeth would love to get my mouth sorted but am scared of kicking off a flare for something which is quite cosmetic right now but will need sorting eventually as a couple more teeth are a bit wobbly and I guess won't last 5 years 🫤

I had an implant done last year while on abatecept and the rheumatologist advised to stop for a week post implant. Always best to check with you rheumatologist who will advise.

Yes, I had one done later last year. The dentist liaised with my rheumatologist, who advised pausing MTX ( I can't remember the specific time of pause, but certainly til I'd finished the antibiotics). MTX is currently holding me in remission, and this pause didn't change that. The implant site healed very well, and my most recent check up showed a good.

Yes, I’ve had a couple, on RTX and MTX. I believe I stopped the MTX for a week.

Hi, over the last year and still continuing, I have had 7 implants and may need another 2. I have my bloods taken every 12 weeks, the Dentist checks these before each treatment, also asking about my health. I did not pause the Methotrexate before treatment.

I've had three implants since starting on MTX in 2019 (I think there have been three). One time, I may have stopped MTX for the week of the prescribed antibiotic, but I also think I remember one time the antibiotic chosen was specifically not one that needed to have MTX halted.

And, for the most recent implant, we didn't use any antibiotics. My periodontist didn't think it was warranted that time. Upshot: whoever is placing the implant (periodontist or regular dentist), they should be able to know whether or not the antibiotic chosen require that MTX be halted.

So basically, I have only come off MTX because of a specific antibiotic, not because of any other reason from the procedure.

I've been in remission for a long time, so halting for a week here or there has not ever caused a problem. You'll want to loop in your rheumy beforehand; I did that and all went well. Good luck!
