biologic medication and possible side effects

Wondering if anyone has had something similar happen.

I’ve had severe p since 2020 and PA soon after and started the biologic adalimumab in January 2020 after systemic treatments failed/side effects became to bad. In June this month my adalimumab was swapped as it want working wellto ustekinumab which I had my first dose mid july.

In have previously had unknown dizziness which went away last august (2023). In may this year I had the first bout of dizziness and then over the past 2 weeks they’ve been happening multiple times a day.

I was wondering if anyone has had this when on biologics as my gp has suggested it could be making it worse.

My heart rate and gp have been slightly high when checked during and not during dizziness episodes.

Any advice on what could be causing it/if it is my medication would be greatly appreciated.

(I have spoke to my consultants secretary as advised by gp and I see them at the end of the month)

Thanks,

Katie

some biologics are known to cause headaches and dizziness. I was on Orencia and suffered with them until my dose was reduced. I am petite and the standard does was too high for me so we agreed (consultant and I) to inject every 14 days as opposed to weekly. That helped and Orencia was great for me until it stopped working after I had the Covid vaccines

hi, I know this sounds odd, but are you sure the dizziness is connected to the biologic. I personally know 3 people who are currently suffering severe dizzy spells (one of them post a Covid infection) and none of them take biologic meds.

Yes Maggsie, I’ve read that, post Covid infection, dizziness is often caused by POTS and is fairly common. If it persists katienewland I think it would be advisable to see your GP.

I got this a lot last year and my GP put me on a medication to see if it worked for 6 weeks. After 12 weeks and reducing the dizziness stopped. However I get the odd day still but not as bad as last year. My BP and heart rate would go up too

It is always tempting to put everything down to either the illness (rheumatoid arthritis) or the medication for it but everyone is different! It is worth checking out other causes of dizziness such as problems with ears etc.
