Just a wee note to say that 4 days after the SSPA received my medical report from my GP they have granted me Tier 2 ill health retirement.
Cannot quite believe it after all of the carry on with my employers occupational report last month and the catalogue errors, hold ups that followed etc.
Thank you once again to everyone on here that offered me such support through one on the most horrendous few weeks as I navigated my way through it all whilst struggling with my new medication.
You all stopped me from throwing the towel in and I will be forever appreciative of this. Time to start living my life well now and I wish everyone a lovely pain free weekend.
Thank you all again!

Oh brilliant news! So pleased for you. Now you can put all that horrible worrying and misery away and enjoy life in retirement which you richly deserve!
congrats. I went through the process 12 years ago. My HR were very unhelpful, and downright obstructive. It took the best part of a year to get the paperwork sorted and like you, within a week of the medical bod having the paperwork I was signed off (much to the annoyance of HR) 😊
I had a very similar issue as you when working for the NHS in a position I absolutely loved so held off for far too long. I cannot believe what they put me through to be honest it was damn right insulting and my stress levels were off the charts. The good news is like you I was medically retired but it took an age or so it seemed. That was 10 years ago and although my RA still isn’t controlled or anywhere near (I’m still awaiting the magic drug) not having to go to work has made my life so much easier and I’m no longer living on oramorph as I used to be to function at work. Enjoy every moment of your retirement and don’t forget to celebrate it wasn’t your choice to have to be medically retired but now how you move on with your ‘retired’ life is your choice. Well done for getting to the end of a most stressful period of sheer hell no doubt and thanks for the update, I’m certain it will help others. Yay 🥳 time.
Thank you again for all your good wishes. I am still numb with shock but keep catching myself having a wee smile to myself. Something I had forgotten to do over the last 7 months. I really do hope my story and the advice given to me helps anyone else out there get through the ordeal of applying for ill health retirement. I certainly felt like I had a band of cheer leaders behind me! You all helped me so much.
