I find myself really struggling on humid days; even when it’s not particularly hot.
I know that this may be a side-effect of prednisolone but I’m on a very small dose of 3 mg daily. However, I did have a booster shot of steroids about four weeks ago due to a long term flair. The jab is really helping but I’ve gained weight (maybe fluid retention) and sweating profusely which can be quite embarrassing.Just wondered if anybody else had this issue with temperature control?

Hi. I’ve been on Pred for 34 years, usual daily dose is 7.5mgs and I detest the humid days even though it usually means we’ve got some sort of Summer…..
I do sweat more and suffer from fluid retention which makes me very bad tempered. It messes with my head and makes me foggy and of course all sorts of bits of me, which are mostly slim, balloon and wobble with the heat. I’m fine on days without humidity and really enjoy being out in the sun but I do think steroids contribute to poor temperature control when it all gets steamy!
Not much you can do really. You need the steroids so just have to hope we don’t get too many sweaty days. I’m sitting here under the verandah in my garden, my head is leaking like a sieve and if it wasn’t humid it would be a very pleasant 23 degrees. Hey ho, Summer has briefly arrived, musn’t grumble………..😀🥵
oh yes but for me it’s not the steroids. I blame the disease as its the inflammation makes me joy in general but add heat and humidity and I’m useless. I think many on here are the same
It might be your rheumatoid med is contributing to the sweating. Oral steroids did not make me sweat even in a warm summer, but Depo Medrone steroid shots made me flushed for a week or so, but it was Rtx and Fentanyl patches made me feel flushed in the evenings/night. Both are known to have those side effects quite noticeably for some. Also post meno was another warm factor for me at but that calmed down thankfully, so often it’s hard to deduce what is the cause. Hope you can alleviate your symptoms and they improve.
I’m the opposite, I have severe adrenal insufficiency, I produce zero cortisol myself. I’m on steroids for life. For me the severe head sweats are a sign that I’m low in cortisol. My endocrinologist suggested I checked my blood sugar when the sweats occurred. If it was low, then assume low cortisol, and increase my steroid dose. I’m only on 4mg of prednisolone. They say you need the equivalent of 3-5mg of prednisolone for your bodies day to day tasks. I find if i take a little extra before doing my housework or food shopping, then I cope better.
I have had lots of explanations for why I have episodes of profuse sweating and continuous heat intolerance. It's put down to the steroids, to the inflammatory process of the auto-immune disease, to the menopause (while I was that sort of age,40-60), the other medication that I take, hay fever, etc. No-one really knows.
I've been on prednisolone for 6 years and am hot (compared to other people) pretty much all the time. When I was on a high dose (more than 20mg) it was pretty unbearable - sweating profusely all the time. Going on holiday to a very hot place made me feel ill. So I believe the steroids make you far less tolerant to heat.
All the time , you will find loads of posts about this ! I have been on pred for over 4 years and in that time I have never worn a winter coat ! I'm now back down to 7 mgs and it's not quite as bad.It comes and goes there is no way I can control it.If you look it up on Google etc , you will see its a side affect. I sympathise it's truly horrible, I have some lovely jumper I have never even worn. Never mind one day it will disappear! Good luck 👍
