hi everyone

Just a bit of advice needed as on a Sunday there is nobody out there !Had toothache since Friday and think I may have a gum or tooth infection. No temperature but pain just kept under with paracetamol every 6 hours.will get emergency dentist appointment tomorrow as my dentists are very good.Did not take yesterdays filgotinib,as felt this is what others on here would do,and will not take todays either.Do you think this is correct thing to do.i know it is not encouraged to give medical advice, but just looking for reassurance that I am doing the right thing.thanks all xx

I think you’re probably doing exactly the right thing - and even if it’s not, it’s not going to make much difference if you're off Filgotinib for a day or two.

If you’ve got any kind of infection it’s advised you stop biologics and JAKs so best of luck with your dental appointment and hope they relieve your pain!

If you get stuck with questions it’s always worth keeping in mind you can phone 111. All best. X

Thankyou for your reply,I thought it was the right thing to do,as when I had shingles recently,I had to pause while on antivirals, and even after a week it did not cause a real flare at all.Have never rung 111 as don’t like to bother them !!

Hi Doodlereggie. Sorry to hear about your gum/tooth, an unpleasant experience that's for sure. I can't comment on your Filgotinib but until you see your dentist, keep having warm salt water rinses, that should help with the inflammation and help to kill any bacteria - my dentist's recommendations. Hope you get it sorted tomorrow.

Thanks for your reply.I have been doing this with salt water. Is there a limit as to how many times you can do it a day?

Personally, I think it's OK a few times per day but be careful, as it may aggravate if done too much. Luckily, you only have to wait until tomorrow.

I had a similar problem and my NHS dentist gave me a prescription for high strength fluoride toothpaste …. that seems to have settled it..If I do get toothache again in the same area, I clean my teeth in that area more times a day?

Corsodyl mouthwash is pretty good for gums but check with your dr that it is OK to use with your meds

Hey, I'm on fligotinib and had this in December. It was a gum abcess and needed antibiotics. My rheum nurse told me stop the fligotinib until antibiotics finished. Hope that helps!

That's good, it was so painful and made me feel ill too. Hope you're on the mend soon. Dentist also recommend luke warm salt water gargle and corsodyl like others have suggested. Take care.
