I am doing brilliantly on 200 mg filgotinib for last 7 months,a miracle drug as I have often said on here.Saw rheumy last week, crp reduced from 78 to 7.Had a letter this morning saying that it is recommended that older patients,I am78 should only be on 100mg so,if I am ok with the reduction he will change the dose.I am also reducing my preds from 5mg after 23 years 1 mg a month and am currently taking 4 mg for 2 more weeks before going down to 3 mg.I am scared that I will be back to square one and back in pain again.I have no side effects from the meds, but have read the warnings for elderly patients.Obviously I will do what he recommends as I trust him,but I wondered if anyone on 100mg has had good results,as well as those on 200mg.Thankyou in advance, you have all been so helpful over last 7 months,I couldn’t have done it without you!!xx

filgotinib
Hi Doodlereggie. Great that you’ve done well on Filgotinib and it’s working for you. We have talked before on here about it as I’m recently on it (five months now) too and it’s working well for me when I’ve managed to stay on it.
Have had a few hiccoughs with infections and because my lymphocytes dropped too low my consultant stopped it for a fortnight and then reduced my dose to 100 mgs from 200mgs but it’s made no difference to the efficacy of the drug. I am also tapering from 10 mgs Pred and have got to 8.5 mgs now over two months but am not sure I want to go to my normal, maintenance dose of 7.5 yet as am flaring slightly.
My word of caution to you having done more or less what you’re doing is don’t go too fast with the steroid reduction. You think being on a slightly lower dose of pred is fine till your body wakes up and doesn’t agree and you’re painful and flaring! I wanted to gallop down from 10 mgs but at 9mgs realised I’d have to wait to adjust and am now going really slowly until I’ve been on the 100mgs of Filgotinib for a bit longer. See how you go and as it’s your body (and mind) only go as far and as fast as you want to and feels right.
All the very best, hope you continue to do well and in the fullness of time post and let us know. 😀
Thanks so much for your reply, and I remember speaking to you before!I think you are so right and I am going to remain on 4 mg until well after new lower dose of filgotinib has proved itself. After all this time on 5mg preds a few more months won’t matter.I have 2 more months of 200mgs and I think dr persey will keep those and then reduce filgotinib when next prescription is due in November.I am so reassured to hear that the reduced dose did not cause you problems,as I have read over and over when researching that 100mg is always recommended for over 65 years of age.Better to try the lower dose if that causes less probs in the elderly!Have been able to stop taking any paracetamol too ,which is good.Have just been cutting down a buddleia today,so may suffer a bit tomorrow!!xx
Brilliant that you're doing so well. It's so good to hear people who can get relief. Hopefully the reduced dose works too.
