Bad reaction to Prednisone?

Hello all

Has any one had a very quick unpleasant reaction to taking Prednisone tablets. I have taken 10mg yesterday and 5mg today. I started feeling very woozy, lightheaded, as if I am drunk since lunchtime. I had Prednisone a few years back when I was put on about 40mg tablets, I had to come off it quickly because I was feeling so awful and as high as a kite! But I never expected to feel like this from such a small dose. I am only taking it because I am waiting to re start Tocilizimab after it was changed to a Biosimilar and I had an allergic reaction to it.

If only I had just been able to stay on Tocilizimab… I never realised that changing to a biosimilar could cause problems. Its nearly a month without medication now and I am told I should get the Tocilizimab in another week. After a few years on Tocilizimab and being pretty much in remission I am now getting RA symptoms again 😔 feeling very fed up

Thanks for listening ☺️

That sounds like prednisone doesn’t agree with you and I’m not liking the sound of this tocilizumab biosimilar! I would ring your GP or rheumatologist (whoever prescribed you the pred) and tell them how it’s making you feel and don’t take anymore in the meantime.

It could be that your drop from 10 to 5 mgs was too much but you haven’t been on the pred long enough to have to taper so I’d ring the prescriber as ruth_p has suggested and see what they come up with. Shame you had to change from Toc to something which didn’t suit you and I hope they discussed that with you before you ended up on it. It’s all to do with cost these days unfortunately and it can wreck us if we’re put onto the wrong medication.

Hope you get sorted out really quickly and back to your normal. All best.

Sorry to hear you’ve had that reaction to Prednisolone so it’s probably a good idea to let your Rheumy team know.

I’m interested to know if you were switched from RoActemra to Tyenne (a biosimilar of Tocilizumab), which is also about to happen to me, and what was the result?

Yup. I’m like a woman possessed on oral steroid.

i had a bad reaction when I came down too fast. Thought I’d had a TIA. I had to go back up and come down slowly. It depends how long you have been on it as to how slow you taper.
