Hi, i was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis 5 years ago and I'm on methotrexate and hydroxycloroquine. I'm was hoping to start taking spirulina and chlorella as they have so many health benefits but I not sure of any drug interactions. I've tried Google but I'm getting conflicting advice, some say it's OK some i can't? Any help would be much appreciated . Thank you!

Spirulina and Chlorella
Contact your nurse specialist as quite a lot of the supplements cause interactions
If you look for a very recent and still current post from MyBirthday headed Vitamin D and RA you’ll find a whole discussion about supplements and RA which may help you to come to some sort of decision.
quick answer Check with ra team , pharmacy or GP.
The only person you should take advice from is your rheumatologist! It really is very important not to take any supplements if you are on prescription drugs.
In fact most people who have a good diet probably won’t need to take them.
i was told not to take spirulina by my nurse she never elaborated why
Spirulina boosts immunity and interferes with immunosuppressants. That's why we can't take it. X
I was told at my first ever rheumy appointment to check with them before taking any supplements, as well as being given a list of definite no-nos.
