Co-vid booster , MTX & Pred

I had an op 6 weeks ago , prior to stopping MTX before the op I also cancelled my Co-vid booster as I was advised not to have it a week or so before the op , now I’m back on MTX 10mg injections and a small amount of pred 4mg, after reading some research on the affects of co-vid on people taking MTX it appears that the way MTX & Pred reduce the inflammation in your body the Likelihood of getting a bad case of co-vid are greatly reduced in your favour . What’s the general feeling on this point . I’m sitting on the fence whether to have the booster or not .

Purely personal view but I take every vaccination of whatever kind going; RA or no RA. Medicated or not. Unless it’s contraindicated of course!

In January I had a friend under the care of critical care with Covid. She was on both MTX and pred and had had all boosters. She was extremely sick and has lung damage. You are on meds and have a disease that puts you at risk. If it were me I would have the booster. Just my opinion though. The choice is yours to make.

Methotrexate and steroids might reduce the risk of a cytokine storm which can kill you. But also increases your risk of a poor response to the infection with severe results. Safer to have the vaccination in my opinion.

I had all the jabs and stopped Methotrexate for wk after . Not sure about steroids. I was ok with all jabs and no ill effects

I’m on 25mg MTX, as well as 4mg prednisolone and a tnf inhibitor. I also use hydrocortisone around 10mg a day. On top of this I occasionally have to inject intramuscular steroids when I get low cortisol issues and start vomiting. I’ve always had my boosters and will continue to do so. I omit the MTX for the 2 weeks advised. I have no chest expansion as my ribs are fused, so any infection proves difficult to clear. The news recently says covid is on the rise again, the weather and barbie movie being blamed. So I personally would take it. I did read that JCVI have advised the government only to offer both covid & flu jabs to over 65, unless they’re in the clinical risk group. I do feel slightly concerned going into winter that younger people have only had the 3 vaccines, the last being about 2yr ago.
