I have inflammatory arthritis and started methotrexate having been on Prednisolone for 5 years - for PMR which seems to have flipped to arthritis

My knees are v swollen, stiff and have difficulty walking- have had 2 lots of steroid inj into my r knee- Rheumy wants to try a third inj when I have enough methotrexate on board- is that a good idea? You get so many conflicting advices from people

is the conflicting advice from medics or other? If I am unsure I talk to my GP if feeling concerned about my treatment plan or medication and when I loved recently had a really good discussion with the pharmacist. So maybe keep the advice connections small but also who have the knowledge of you and your meds.

Not too sure if this helps 🥰

My orthopaedic consultant says you should have as few as possible but as many as you need. In my lay understanding you risk weakening tissues if you have too many. However he also said for some there is no choice but to have more. So both sets of advice are right. I’ve just had a second one in my right knee. Last one was in 2020. (Sadly it’s not been very effective this time).

I’m not medically qualified and others on here may be better able to advise you but I’d be cautious with steroids and the injections in joints may not be the same as those in muscle. I took high dose steroids for an AKI and there was no choice and it wasn’t nice and the weaning off was hard although it’s not the same for injections. I just say if the pain is really bad then ask about Ad cal D3 to protect your bones. They worked for me when I broke my leg and ankle last year only took 8 weeks to heal and the breaks were my own careless fault not due to weakness. My Dexa scan was great so I do think Ad cal is good.
