Referal to specialists at Oxford hospital?

Hi Everyone.I am wondering if anyone has been referred to the specialists at Oxford hospital re replacement hips & realignment of pelvis? & if so how things went?

I have had my left hip replaced 3 times, at 19yrs old, 26yrs old & 51 yrs old, (im now 66) - since the last op ive had lots of pain & been told there is not much left of my own bones remaining around the hip, so nothing more can be done. I was referred back to the hip surgeon about 6 years ago who virtually said - either put up with the pain or get a wheelchair, he also explained that on the last replacement a cage had been built around the hip in order that it didnt go into my pelvis, & i would be safe. However, last month i learnt from a knee surgeon that there is no longer any cage, & that my hip is now nearly touching the spine & pelvis, he couldnt believe i hadnt been checked on, at least every year. He said i would need to go to Oxford who specialise in hips/pelvis but the referal would need to come from the hip surgeon so he wrote to him urgently (both at same hospital) & yesterday a month later i receive an appointment for end of May, to see if he is going to refer me! I am interested to hear of anyones experiences...

My rheumatologist is at Nuffield Orthopaedic in Oxford. They’re very good there and do a lot of research. I still go there even though I live in Essex. I had both my hip replacements there.

Thanks, i have been advised that its where a lot of research is done, & that they have specialists in hips/pelvis, so nice to hear good comments.

do you mean Nuffield orthopaedic in Oxford. It’s about 10 years ago now but they were excellent especially since they moved into new building so consultations were in better conditions. I think you’ll be in very good hands.

Thanks, im just waiting for my appointment, so pleased to hear i'll be in good hands. All i've been told so far is that the op will be 8hours plus, so rather nervous! & I'll be a couple of hours from home.....
