I’m not going to be much help probably but I’ll tell you what I remember as I was 7 when I had it. My knee was swollen, red and very painful, I couldn’t straighten it at all and it was stuck at 90° for weeks. It took a while to diagnose and I was in hospital and it was operated on in the end ( probably wouldn’t happen now) Advancements in medicine will no doubt treat it very differently now.
Is this what they’re suspecting you have got?
I know wishbone had it in his hip so hopefully he has more up to date help for you,
Septic arthritis in my hip 8 years ago. Sudden onset of acute pain...woke up one morning unable to walk. Spent nearly a fortnight in hospital and underwent two bouts of surgery to clean out infection. My orthopaedic consultant at the time told me to stop taking Enbril as he reckoned it made it easier for bacteria from a previous UTI to enter my bloodstream. He added that if I'd left it for two more days then my hip could have suffered serious damage. Also had a high temp.
I haven’t had it, but have nursed many who have. It’s normally a very sudden onset, with the joint being red,, inflamed and swollen. Usually there is a high temperature with it. When it’s been suspected, fluid is aspirated and sent off for microbiology. Usually they will start antibiotics anyway whilst waiting on result, as it can lead to osteomyelitis which is difficult to treat, requiring 6 weeks+ of antibiotics
Hi many thanks, they did a needle aspiration into the lumps last friday looking for cancer, not sure if they are looking for infection too, they did not say. but I had already completed a weeks worth of amoxicillin by then, that may swerve the results. the joint is not red, but is swollen I cannot straighten the elbow, it happened 3 months ago after I had an infected sebacious cyst drained. I had no idea there could have been a connection. I never have proper high temperatures either but I do get hold and cold flushes. my temperature rarely goes above 36.8 and I am having a serious hot flush by that time. my running temp is usually in the high 35.*. I can't get the RA consultant to take anything seriously, it's all a figment of my anxious imagination... but my wbc and neutrophil count has been higher than normal ever since that cyst was drained..
