Menopause and RA

Hello girls,

After two years of being in menopause, I had bleeding again, it coincided with 3 days after having applied a cortisone injection (diprospan). Does anyone have a similar experience with this medication or with another of the common ones to treat RA? I am currently taking hydroxychloroquine

Thanks in advance

Hi-I’ve-had-3-incidences-of-breakthrough-bleeds-just-after-Kenalog-hydrocortison-shots-in-the-past-but-it-was-in-my-mid-late-30s and 12 years pre meno. Your-hormones-could-still-be-affected-by-the-Hydrocortisone shots -as your meno is recent, but-I’d-mention-this-to-your-Rheumy-and-GP-just-to-be-sure-and peace of mind etc but-seems-too-much-coincidence.💗

I thought I'd done with periods, then I had one age 54 nearly 2 years after what I thought was my final one. This was pre RA and not related to taking any meds. I was travelling in Africa in charge of a group of 16 teenagers, and put it down to change of environment stress, excitement. (I had to borrow sanpro from the girls...they were amused!)Nothing after that...just a final outlier!

Thank you for your answer, I hope that in my case it is also some minor event, in any case and as Neonkitty17 mentioned, just to be safe and with peace of mind I will do some studies. Thank you very much for sharing

It's often called the 'final fling of a dying ovary'! But it merits a consultation with your GP please in case it signifies any of a list of other conditions.

At menopausal age…any vaginal bleed after two years of no periods should be referred to your doctor….it could need attention.

Hi WomanOfFaith the only comment that I can make is that I have been taking Hydroxychloroquine twice a day for 5years , now this was on the advice of my consultant, she advised me that the medication would slow down the progression of my RA. Now I don’t know how ill I would be without this medication but I now have Sjogrens desease , cataract problems, and Lupus! I am 74 and I started with under active Thyroid 14 years so this is my progression. I hope this helps you make your decision! I wish you all the best.

With regards wakeham
