Coming off mex

Sorry about the late reply. I have been away for 3 weeks. Finally got to go on a cruise, first since COVID. Except from wearing a facemask due to medical conditions regarding RAI had a very bad reaction to mex. Lucky I was already in hospital due to pneumonia, and an allergic reaction to another medication.

My medical consultant was very good, and picked up that I was having a reaction to my mex , he had only seen it once before. So don't worry too much.

If he need the full story please get in touch again.

I am now on a biometric which I receive straight from the hospital.

I am still taking folic acid daily.

Hope that helps you.

mex?

I think it's methotrexate, MTX, though unsure why wt2 would still take folic acid, unless it's until she's sure MTX is out of her system, to help dampen down the reaction.

Also biometric, probably a biologic.

I thought it might be MTX but wasn't sure. The post is quite difficult to read/follow as written (I felt). Perhaps English not their first language...?

It may have been written in a hurry as I think it's a reply to someone. There are one or two other mistakes which make me think as well.

Hiya Diane. Not sure if you realise but you've started a new thread, it's just it reads as though you're replying to someone else’s.

Sorry but I was replying to someone else.

I thought so, but you're not on their thread, that was why I replied.

Did you find who's thread you were replying on Diane?

well «  world traveller » and to those who replied to her , that posting seems to endorse my frequent writing about the need for people with multiple ailments, with many drugs going into them, to be watched over by a multidisciplinary consultant , able to see that pztient as a whole being. In particular for one department to communicate with another. L

Wholeheartedly agree, it makes complete sense, we need to be treated holistically. I was told on one occasion that my consultants had had a multidisciplinary meeting but a multidisciplinary consultant would be ideal.

wow , Rachmaninov !! We should start a campaign , I can’t do it alone. My rheumatologist refused to do multidisciplinary , czrdiology had resuested it. My GP can’t help, two «  holistic «  clinics I contacted, were full of dietery plans but were not medically trained and were very keen to be paid exorbitant amounts of money.

It is difficult !! I’ve refused to take Methotrexate because of my 3 heart drugs , but now I feel like a naughty child , I will probably be blacklisted .

Your reply cheered me on this disgusting bleak morning! L

Why did your rheumatologist refuse, do you know? I think it’s a step in the right direction that cardiology requested it, and I imagine multidisciplinary meetings will happen in the future.

Ultimately we all have the right to decide what medications we take and I feel that doctors need to try to understand the reasons for our decisions. It would be great if care was a partnership of doctors and ourselves.

I hope this adds a bit of brightness to your morning. 🙂

It would certainly help if one department communicated with another. My h's Nephrologist is good at doing so with his Cardiologist but some others, his Gastroenterologist in particular, are hopeless, but he is a good Consultant, shame. The appointments team need to have a word with each triage team, musculoskeletal don't know when one has been assessed or if they haven't. It's needed but I don't see a multidisciplinary team any time soon in our local hospital.
